Netherlands spoil Charlesworth’s Kookaburra coaching debut.
The Netherlands have gained some revenge from the Beijing Olympics and spoiled Ric Charlesworth’s debut as Kookaburras coach, defeating the Kookaburras 4-2 tonight in Busselton,WA.
It has been a great first week back with the Australian team together for the first time since the Olympics. It’s good to see some fresh new faces in the team, with five players making their debut. It is also a little bit strange being with the Australian team without some of the newly retired players, some who had been in the team for the last 10 years. The team is together in Perth for a weeks camp prior to four games against the Dutch.
The week, so far, has been pretty tough coming off a bit of a break over Christmas, but now we are well and truly in the swing of things. New coaches Ric Charlesworth and Graham Reid have been putting us through our paces this week, we still have a lot to learn before our first game!
Everyone is very much looking forward to playing in the Australian colours again, particularly in a home series.

THREE days into his new job as coach of the Australian men’s hockey team, Ric Charlesworth had more than game plans on his mind. … New players hoping to force their way into the team will be joined by midfielders Rob Hammond and Eddie Ockenden, defender Mark Knowles and striker Des Abbott, who return from their European club seasons for national duties.
