Charlesworth appointment a new era for hockey

The Kookaburra’s two-time World Hockey Player of the Year and Olympic Gold Medallist Jamie Dwyer believes the appointment of Ric Charlesworth as Australian head coach, has signalled a new era in Australian Men’s Hockey.

Dwyer took a backseat in last night’s win as 2008 International Hockey Federation Young Player of the Year, Eddie Ockenden, led the way for the Kookaburras scoring twice.

The Kooaburras beat the Netherlands to tie up their hockey series

Australia handed coach Ric Charlesworth his first victory as they locked up their four-match hockey series with a 4-2 win over the Netherlands in Busselton.

The Kookaburras avenged their first-up defeat with a stirring second half performance, young gun Eddie Ockenden and veteran Grant Schubert both scoring doubles for the home side.

Netherlands spoil Charlesworth’s Kookaburra coaching debut.

The Netherlands have gained some revenge from the Beijing Olympics and spoiled Ric Charlesworth’s debut as Kookaburras coach, defeating the Kookaburras 4-2 tonight in Busselton,WA.

Media Highlights: Charlesworth hears London calling

THREE days into his new job as coach of the Australian men’s hockey team, Ric Charlesworth had more than game plans on his mind. New players hoping to force their way into the team will be joined by midfielders Rob Hammond and Eddie Ockenden, defender Mark Knowles and striker Des Abbott, who return from their European club seasons for national duties.

Media Highlights: Kookaburras in Canberra

Canberra will host a three-Test series between the Beijing Olympic Games bronze medal-winning Kookaburras and Belgium in February.

Two-time Olympians Grant Schubert and Liam DeYoung and Beijing medallist Eddie Ockenden, David Guest, Luke Doerner and Des Abbott will add experience to the squad.
